Gustaf Christoffersson recieves the Gustafsson Prize

Gustaf Christoffersson, Department of Medical Cell Biology, is awarded the Gustafsson Prize to Young Scientists in 2018. The prize awarded to researchers younger than 37 years consists of a research grant of SEK 2.5 million over three years.

Gustaf Christoffersson defended his PhD thesis on how immune cells affect the formation of blood vessels in a new experimental model developed by himself. After three years as postdoc in California, Gustaf returned to Uppsala University and has built a lab for Type 1 diabetes research at the Department of Medical Cell Biology.
"I hope my research will help fill the knowledge holes about what causes type 1 diabetes and eventually lead to effective treatments. With the award from Göran Gustafsson's foundation, I can expand my research team to further deepen our knowledge of this disease, says Gustaf Christoffersson.
